And in the pond swim swans that are absolutely confident they own the territory.

 

For children, this is usually a revelation: animals are not in cages, but right next to them. You can stop, observe, and listen to how a goose “honks” or how a goat “bleats.”

 

 

How to Get There

 

From the center of Lviv (Svobody Avenue) to Shevchenkivskyi Hai is about 3 km. It’s a 10–15 minute drive. You can also get there by public transport — trams №1, 2, and 7 go there.

 

 

Limpopo Zoo

 

If you expect to see something modest like a couple of enclosures — get ready to be surprised. “Limpopo” looks as if its owners once decided: “Why not create a dream zoo?” — and simply did it. A spacious area, hundreds of animal species, exotic inhabitants that children usually know only from YouTube. Lions, tigers, jaguars, llamas, zebras, ostriches — even adults get lost among the enclosures because you want to see everything at once.

 

The main “star” is Caesar the lion. People talk about him with respect and a bit of awe, as the 300-kilogram beauty truly looks like a king. But children are usually more excited about cheerful raccoons or ponies they can feed. Emotional contrast guaranteed.

The zoo is located in the village of Medenychi, about 60 km from Lviv’s center. It’s roughly a 1-hour drive. Public transport is more complicated. Buses do not always run at convenient times, and with children, this becomes a real challenge.

This space is unlike classical zoos in Lviv. Every animal at the “Home” has its own story: some were abandoned, some rescued from circuses, others couldn’t survive in the wild due to injuries. Wolves, foxes, storks, eagles, squirrels, owls, and even wild boars — all of them are given a chance for a better future here.

All without any rush.

 

 

 

Cozy Farm

 

If classical zoos near Lviv are about observing, then Cozy Farm is about interaction. This is a small family farm that has grown into a real goat republic. The animals here are used to people — they come up to visitors, examine them, and sometimes demand attention.

 

 

On the farm, you can taste cheeses, yogurts, and milk made right here. And this creates the feeling that you're not in a tourist location, but a guest at someone's home — among people who live what they do.

Cozy Farm is located in the village of Kohuty, about 40 km from Lviv. By car — up to an hour, if you don’t get stuck in traffic.

 

 

Lviv City Children's Ecological and Naturalistic Center

 

This center is home to more than a hundred animals, including a chameleon, a llama, peacocks, a boa constrictor, a raccoon, and even a monkey that has long considered itself the main star of the place.

 

And most importantly — everything here is built around explanations, not around “have a look and move on”. Children ask questions and get answers. This is not the kind of place where you quickly run through the area. This is a location you want to return to.

Snail Farm “Zakhidnyi Ravlyk”

 

If you think snails are just something from a French menu, this farm will quickly prove they can be much more interesting than they seem. At “Zakhidnyi Ravlyk”, you are taken on a small scientific and gastronomic expedition. They show how snails live, what they eat, why they are so demanding, and which dishes can be prepared from them.

 

Children are most impressed not by the cuisine, but by the process: hundreds of tiny creatures slowly yet confidently moving through their own world. Adults, on the other hand, are usually surprised that farming can be so… calm. And very profitable, by the way. But that’s another story.

The farm is located in the village of Solonka — just 18 km from the central part of Lviv. By car, it’s about a 30-minute drive.

 

 

Raccoon House

 

If you imagine a place where even adults suddenly start squealing from delight — this is it. Raccoon House is a private zoo space created by people who once simply fell in love with these clever animals with striped tails. And now the raccoons don’t just live in an enclosure — they actively check guests’ pockets, test how stretchy shoelaces are, and are convinced the world was created for them.

“Edelweiss” Ranch

 

If your route lies in the direction of the Carpathians, this small zoo corner is a great opportunity to take a break. “Edelweiss” is not a giant complex, but that is exactly what makes it appealing. Deer, foxes, wolves, and several bears live here, and they seem well aware of how photogenic they are. Children observe them with genuine curiosity, while adults appreciate the quiet and the atmosphere, which is very different from the city rhythm.

“Domazhyr” Bear Sanctuary

 

“Domazhyr” takes in bears that were kept in captivity for years: in traveling circuses, private menageries, or venues where animals were used for entertainment. Here they no longer perform, pose for photos, or do tricks — they are simply allowed to live like bears.
